چکیده

,. Nuclear EMP environments have various forms depending on the location of the nuclear detonation and the location of the system exposed to the EMP environment. One can simulate these environments with various degrees of completeness on such systems. A simulator produces an EMl? environment on a system of interest in a manner which can be related to the type of nuclear weapon deton~ ation being simulated. There are many types of EMP simulators, some of which have been realized in one or more existing EMP simulators. Some types of IMP simulators only exist conceptually at the present time. This note discusses the basic types or categories of EW simulators. Such categories are based on the electromagnetic geometry of the simulator structure and electrical sources) including the location of the system under test and other nearby materials significantly influencing the electromagnetic fields. The various types of simulators are suitable for simulating different types of nuclear EMP environments. A particular type of EMP environment can be simulated with different degrees of completeness depending on the type of simulator used. In this note we only consider nonnuclear types of energy sources and in some-”ca”s.es high energy photon and electron sources. The EMP simulators considered range from ones which illuminate entire systems, down to ones which drive individual penetrations into systems. Not considered here are techniques for testing individual components or “black boxes” or”driving the system at some intermediate point along an internal coupling path. * +:This paper is an adaptation of Sensor and Simulation Eote 151, 13 JUIY 1972” IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION, VOL. Sensors for Measurement of Intense Electromagnetic Pulses

Fast, large-amplitude pulses are encountered in-the nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP), lightning, various pulse-power machinery, and charged particle ke~ms. In the context of the EMP program various accurate, broad-band senrs have been developed. The principal types of these sensors have been ..signedto measure electric and magnetic fields, current densities, currents, and voltages. Often it ...

Nuclear Magnetohydrodynamic Emp, Solar Storms, and Substorms

In addition to a fast electromagnetic pulse (EMP), a high altitude nuclear burst produces a relatively slow magnetohydrodynarnic EMP (MHD EMP), whose effects are like those from solar storm geomagnetically induced currents (SS-GIC). The MHD EMP electric field E < 10 V/m and lasts < 10 sec, whereas for solar storms E > 10 V/m and lasts >10 sec. Although the solar storm electric field is lower th...

Comparison of three types of G × E performance plot for showing and interpreting genotypes’ stability and adaptability

A G × E performance (interaction, profile) plot for showing genotype-by-environment data is discussed. Three versions of such a plot are compared: the regular performance plot; the performance plot based on coded data (environment-centered performance plot), in which the environment means of a trait are subtracted from data; and the performance plot based on data standardized in environments (e...

Investigation of MODIS mission capability in tropospheric delay estimation for precise point positioning

Tropospheric delay is always considered as one of the factors limiting the accuracy of GPS. In this paper, the three-dimensional ray tracing technique is proposed to calculate the tropospheric delay. The ability of the MODIS mission to calculate the tropospheric delay is also examined. For this purpose, an area in central Europe was selected and a MODIS acquisition on 2008/08/01 was studied. In...
